Just like anything else, it is hard to get in the habit of doing something or develop a habit that will benefit your health. Such as exercising, when you realize that you've gained a few pounds and cant fit into those jeans anymore, it's hard to find ways that will help you shed those extra pounds. Luckily, if you want to lessen your chance of acquiring dementia i'm glad you are reading this. To start you need to find time and a place to dance. It doesn't necessarily have to be an actual dance class where you might feel intimidated by the talent around you. It can even be in the comfort of your own home by yourself! The main idea here is to just dance around for an hour or so with music playing with random steps. The randomness is important. If you continue to do your comfortable two step jig, you aren't accomplishing what you really should be. Your brain catches on to your monotonous movements and it becomes routine like brushing your teeth or riding a bike. You need to keep your brain on it's toes and try some new steps every time you dance. A partner is even better when dancing because you don't know what they're going to do next and your brain is just reacting constantly. But with this one must be careful because dancing with the same partner can become monotonous as well. So get up, put on your dancing shoes, and go out and find a partner to dance with!
Here is a picture of me dancing in a senior
line dancing class for my field work hours.
